Learn English in Portsmouth with our General plus Business English Courses
This course gives you the opportunity to learn English for day-to-day communication as well as specific English skills you might need in your work place.
The programme is divided into two parts: students spend half of their day (12.5 hours of lessons per week) in a General English group of maximum 12 students and the other half day (12.5 hours of lessons per week) in a small Business English group, which consists of a maximum of four professional people from different companies.

- 25 hours (60 minutes) per week, plus 5-10 hours self-access
- Start any Monday (however there are no General English morning classes on public holidays: 30th March, 2nd April, 7th May, 28th May, 27th August)
- Minimum 2 weeks
- Minimum level: Lower-Intermediate
- Business lunch with teachers is an optional extra
- This course includes lessons on Friday afternoons
The main focus of the morning General English class is on grammar, with skills such as speaking and listening also covered. Throughout these classes, you will also have the opportunity to widen your vocabulary and improve your pronunciation.
In the afternoon classes, you will be in a minigroup of maximum 4 people from different countries and different professional backgrounds in a simulation of a real, multinational context. You’ll practise skills for negotiating, discussing current business issues, socialising, giving presentations, participating in meetings and teleconferencing.

During your stay in Portsmouth, you may want to live with a local homestay family, in one of our self-catering residences, or choose to find your own accommodation. We will do everything we can to give you the best option to suit your needs and to help and support you with your living arrangements.
With this course you can choose activities from both the General English social programme and Executive English social programme. Both programmes are full and varied, and include weekly sporting events, dinner in restaurants and cultural and educational activities. Just some of the after school activities you could take part in include football with our teachers, volleyball, conversation club, afternoon tea, karaoke nights, international parties and visits to local restaurants and pubs. Our social programme is always changing, and is tailored to meet the needs of all students.
