COVID-19 CHANGES TO T&Cs

We want to give you peace of mind for your upcoming study plans, so we have revised our T&Cs to make them more flexible.  The following terms are applicable to any bookings made from 1st April 2020 and are valid until the end of 2020. They apply to all face-to-face courses except Pre-sessional English, where standard terms apply:

BEFORE STARTING A COURSE – CANCELLATION or POSTPONEMENT:

If we receive notice of postponement and/or cancellation for a course more than 5 working days before the start of a course:

  • Tuition: no cancellation fee or course change fees.  A full refund will be given or credit note valid for 2 years from the original start date.
  • Homestay: no cancellation fee.  A full refund will be given for any complete unused weeks or credit note for 2 years.
  • Student house: no cancellation fee but the self-catering fee will be retained. There will be no credit note
  • Visa required countries:  no cancellation fee however, a £300 deposit is  required to issue a visa invitation letter.  This is non-refundable but can be kept as credit note for 2 years if a postponement is necessary.

If we receive notice of postponement and/or cancellation for a course less than 5 working days before the start of a course, the registration fee will be kept and a credit note will be given for the remaining fees less the registration fee.  If you are booked in our student house, 1 week’s  ( 7 full days ) accommodation will be charged with the self-catering fee.

AFTER STARTING A COURSE – CANCELLATION or POSTPONEMENT:

  • Tuition: Credit will be given for any complete, unused weeks.  The credit note  is valid for 2 years from the original course start date.
  • Homestay: no cancellation fee.  A full refund will be given or credit note  for 2 years for any complete unused weeks.
  • Student house: 4 weeks notice is required.  A refund or credit note will be issued for any complete unused weeks less the self-catering fee and 4 weeks’ accommodation fee.

Any credit note can be used for both online and face-to-face courses and is valid for 2 years from the original course start date.   If the same course and duration is booked, we will waive any potential differences in the course fees.  However, you will be liable for any increases in direct costs (for example accommodation, accompanied lunches, taxi transfers).  Credit notes can only be transferred to close family members at the discretion of LSI Portsmouth.

CHANGE FEE

Flexible no change fee policy: we will waive our normal changes fee for any amendment made to an existing booking.

Please note that if you are booking an online course, our Terms and Conditions differ – please see here.

IN THE EVENT OF SCHOOL CLOSURE

Should the school be forced to close by the UK Government  due to a new wave of Covid-19 infections, the following will apply:

  • Tuition: all classes will move online, with fees paid recalculated at the lower online course prices.  Should you choose not to continue the lessons online, a credit note will be given for any complete, unused weeks.  The credit note is valid for 2 years from the original start date.
  • Homestay: no cancellation fee.  A full refund will be given or a credit note  for 2 years for any complete unused weeks.
  • Student house: no cancellation fee.  A refund or credit note will be issued for any complete unused weeks less the self-catering fee.

  • Homestay fees are refundable subject to 1 full week’s notice.
  • Self-catering fees are refundable subject to 4 weeks’ notice.
  • If you have a Student Visa, accommodation fees will only be refunded if you show us documentary evidence that you are enrolled and sponsored by another UK institution or have booked and paid for a flight home. Insurance

We strongly advise students to take out travel and medical insurance before leaving home. This should cover loss or damage to personal possessions and loss of tuition fees if you have to finish your course early for any reason.

Other

  • Your level of English must be the required level for the course you have booked. If we think your level is not suitable for the course you booked, we reserve the right to move you to a more appropriate course.  If the new course is more expensive, you will be expected to pay the difference.  If the new course is less expensive, you will receive credit for the difference.
  • If your level of English  is too low to join a group course, we may offer you a programme of 1:1 classes at our current prices. As this will likely be more expensive, you can choose either to pay extra and maintain the full length of your booking, or to pay the original fees and shorten your enrolment. Individual tuition must be booked in a minimum block of 12.5 hours per week.
  • The School reserves the right to cancel or alter a course. If we do so, we will offer either an alternative course or a refund of all fees. If you decide not to take the alternative course offered, we will not be liable for any losses incurred by the student for cancelled travel arrangements.
  • Where there is only one person on a particular group course, we reserve the right to offer the cost-equivalent number of individual lessons instead of the group course.
  • The school reserves the right to change teachers at any time during the course.
  • In the event of ‘force majeure’, such as fire, flooding, infectious diseases and other events outside our reasonable control which may cause the closure of the school.

HOLIDAYS:

  • You may take a holiday during your course, up to a maximum of 4 weeks, provided you give LSI at least 1 week’s notice. The holiday weeks are given as a course credit and you can take these unused study weeks at a later date, within a 12-month period. Please note that course credits are non-refundable and must be taken as study weeks.
  • Homestay accommodation: If you are away for a full week (weekend to weekend) and give 1 week’s notice, we will refund 50% of the fees.
  • Self-catering: There are no refunds for holidays taken.
