LSI Portsmouth’s Saturday IELTS Preparation Workshop – FAQs
What is the Saturday IELTS Preparation Workshop and who is it for?
The Saturday IELTS Preparation Workshop is a new one-day intensive IELTS preparation course at LSI Portsmouth. It is aimed at nurses, doctors, other medical professionals, and in fact anyone who needs to get 7.0 to 8.0 in IELTS.
When does it happen, and how long does it last?
The IELTS Preparation Workshop takes place on Saturdays at different dates during the year. The course last for six hours. There are four classes of an hour and a half, where you will get intensive IELTS tuition in the key areas, particularly reading and writing. The idea is to teach you as much as possible in as short a space of time, and to focus on the areas of the IELTS exam that are the most important.
What will I learn?
IELTS tests for areas: reading, writing, listening and speaking. The course is flexible according to the needs of the students who sign up for it, but in general we find that most people need intensive help with the writing and reading modules of the exam. Most of the day will go through how to do different types of writing and reading. For example, IELTS writing has two tasks, and for each task there are several types of writing. The course will aim to cover as many of these types of writing as possible in the day. We will provide you with model essays and answers, tips, grammar for writing, and ideas about how to structure the writings. We will give you example answers written by our IELTS experts for you to take away at the end of the day and use to work on your writing after the course. In terms of IELTS reading, we will look at some of the key question types that people struggle with, such as True/False/Not Given, Headings and Summary questions. Our IELTS teachers will show you some techniques and tips to help you read faster and more effectively. If needed, we can also look at some IELTS listening strategies, and some help with the speaking test.

How is the IELTS Preparation Workshop different from a normal IELTS course at LSI Portsmouth?
Our full-time, Monday-Friday IELTS courses have an excellent reputation for preparing students for the IELTS exam, and helping them achieve great results. The Saturday IELTS Preparation Workshop is aimed at people who maybe have already got the score the need in some modules of the exam (often in speaking and listening), and don’t need the full course. We also understand that not everyone can attend a course full-time, and that you may need to fit your IELTS studying around other commitments, such as your job and family.
Do I get any feedback on my writing after the course?
Yes. We know how important it is to get feedback on your writing, so we offer a feedback service after the course. We will set you two task 2 writings and two task 1 writings to do after the course, based on what you have learned on the day, and the model essays and answers you have looked at, and we’ll send you back detailed feedback on your writing, so that you can improve your IELTS writing even further.
Is there a minimum IELTS level required to do the course?
The course is aimed at people who want to get 7.0 or above in IELTS, so it is most useful for people who have either achieved at least 6.0 overall in IELTS, or have a B2 minimum level. The course is also suitable for native speakers.
How much does it cost?
The cost for the 6 hours intensive one-day course is £165. This includes all the tuition, materials to take away, and the feedback service after the course.
